EXT.
SKY-NIGHT
POV.
UNKNOWN
We
are soaring high above the forests and can see where
the land meets the sky far into the distance. We are
flying gracefully, almost gliding on the sounds of the
music. Slightly swaying from side to side but we can
clearly see for miles ahead. The moon in the distance
is full and round and the sky is pitch black save for
a few scattered stars here and there
Eventually
we look down slightly and see a car driving just up
ahead on the road far below us. Slowly we begin making
a descent, which takes us closer and closer to the vehicle
below
INT.
CAR
DAVID
ELLISON (mid-thirties, blue-collor kind of guy) is driving
home from the late shift, radio blaring out "Gimme
Shelter" by the Rolling Stones. David decides to
quietly sing along
DAVID
(singing)
Storm is threatening, my very life today. If I don't
get some shelter oh yeah I'm gonna fade away.
EXT.
ROAD
We
see David's car approaching us in the distance his headlights
getting closer. As we PAN RIGHT slightly the dark figure
of a person comes into frame. He appears to be wearing
a long black raincoat but we only see a close up of
his left arm and lower back, his hand in his pocket,
stood still, simply watching as the car approaches
INT.
CAR
David
is still singing, merrily tapping his hand on the steering
wheel to the music
DAVID
(singing)
It's just a shot away, it's just a shot away-
Just
then the radio begins to play up, giving off nothing
but feedback and white noise
DAVID
The hell!?
He
takes his eyes of the road for a second and leans forward
trying to change the stations, tapping the radio panel
A quick glance at the road ahead and he sees the dark
figure standing in the middle of the road, not moving
or flinching
DAVID
Holy mother of-!
EXT.
ROAD
We
see a close up of the figure's eyes they give a bright
red flash
INT.
CAR
David
slams on the brakes, hitting his forehead on the steering
wheel as the car jolts to a sudden stop. He takes a
moment to regain his composure, just then the radio
begins working again
Music
cue: Rolling Stone's "Gimme Shelter" resumes
playing
David
looks down at his radio for a beat then out of the front
windscreen, but even with the headlights on he cannot
see anyone out on the road
EXT.
ROAD
Cautiously
he steps out in front of the car
INT.
CAR
We
can see David through the windscreen looking confused
and scared. There's is no one out here and no indication
that there ever was. Puzzled, he begins to examine his
car for dents, but, again there is no sign of denting
or impact marks. He frantically look saround calling
to see if anyone is injured or needs help
DAVID
Hello?
EXT.
ROAD
DAVID
Is anyone there? Are you hurt? I-I'm sorry you just
came outta' nowhere. Hello? Anybody?
POV.
DAVID
We
look around at the surroundings trying to see if anyone
is out here
CLOSE
UP on David as he begins mumbling to himself
DAVID
(scared)
I swear to god somebody was....right in front of me....oh
god.
He
tries calling out again, convinced that he almost hit
someone
DAVID
(shouting)
Hello? Are you out there?
POV.
UNKNOWN
We
can see David and his car just below us as we begin
to move upwards into the sky, our vision still focused
on David as he gets further and further below us, out
of view
DAVID
(O.S.)
Is anybody out there?

FADE
TO: EXT. ROAD-DAY
The
Impala comes driving down the road on a dreary, rainy
day.
INT.
IMPALA
We
CLOSE UP on a newspaper, our attention is drawn to a
small article circled in pen and bearing the headline
“Mothman Returns!”
SAM
(O.S.)
I can't believe it
PULL
BACK TO REVEAL SAM WINCHESTER is sitting in the passenger
seat reading the newspaper article while DEAN is driving
the Impala, concentrating only on the road ahead
SAM
(CON'T)
I mean, the Mothman!
DEAN
(eyes still on the road ahead)
Yeah. Big whoop
SAM
It's been what? Over 40 years since anybody's last seen
or heard from it?
DEAN
(disinterested)
Something like that
SAM
What do you suppose it wants?
DEAN
I don't know
SAM
(surprised)
What? No guesses? No theories?
DEAN
(threatening)
You're starting to annoy me Sam
SAM
(confused)
Sam?
(laughs)
What happened to Sammy?
DEAN
He's dead
(beat)
I killed him!
SAM
(Laughing)
Dean, what are you talking abou-
Dean,
without warning, SLASHES Sam across the throat with
a knife. One swift move, no hesitation (no remorse)
CLOSE
UP on Sam's face against the blood splattered passenger
window, eyes wide, mouth agape, bleeding out through
the throat. Dean doesn't even bat an eyelid
JUMP
CUT:
INT.
IMPALA-NIGHT
Music
cue: “Hush” by Deep Purple
Sam
wakes with a start in the passenger seat, confused and
scared.
Outside the weather is dark and stormy with lightning
flashes in between the rolls of thunder
Dean is driving nodding along to the music
DEAN
(noticing Sam's current state)
Another bad dream?
Sam
doesn't respond, he's still a bit confused, feeling
along his throat for the knife wound
Dean
reaches across
DEAN
Hey! Earth to Sammy
Sam's
whole body jerks as he tries to back away from Dean,
his back pressed against the passenger-side door
DEAN
(concerned)
Woah, Sam, What the hell's gotten into you?
Sam
takes a second to gain some composure, realizes that
he was having another nightmare
SAM
Sorry I, uh...had a bad dream
DEAN
How bad?
SAM
(beat)
Very
Silence
for a beat
DEAN
You want to talk about it?
SAM
Do you even need to ask?
DEAN
(sighs)
I'll take that as a 'no' then
Sam
pick ups the newspaper (same as in the dream, the Mothman
article is circled)
SAM
(staring at the newspaper)
How far are we from Point Pleasant?
DEAN
About 40 miles. I reckon we should be there within the
hour.
(glances at Sam, worried about him)
We'll check into a motel, get some rest and make a start
first thing in the morning
Sam
leans on his hand against the window
SAM
(frowning)
I really don't feel like sleeping
DEAN
(looking at Sam concerned)
Must have been one hell of a freaky nightmare
SAM
(smiles weakly)
That's an understatement
DEAN
Do you think it was a vision?
SAM
(laughing bitterly)
God I hope not
Dean
looks puzzled, glancing at Sam, then at the road, then
at Sam again then finally settling his gaze on the road
DEAN
(beat)
Was I in it?
SAM
(tired)
Dean I've told you, I don't-
DEAN
(cutting through Sam's evasion tactics)
Was I in it?
SAM
Yes, Dean
(letting it all out)
You were in my dream. You were sitting right where you
are now, we were talking and then you just slit my throat
for absolutely no reason!
DEAN
(taking this in)
Man...that's twisted
SAM
Yeah. So you can understand why I'm feeling a bit freaked
out at the moment
The
two of them are quiet for a beat
DEAN
Sam...you know I would never-
SAM
(nods)
I know
Dean
stares at Sam nodding with him to reinforce his own
belief that he would never do such a thing to his own
brother
DEAN
Good
(beat)
Good
The
two of them sit in awkward silence, only the music providing
any relief from the tension
EXT.
ROAD
The
Impala speeds past a sign. PAN ACROSS to the large road
sign. It reads: “Next Exit: Point Pleasant”
and underneath it someone has added, in spray paint,
“Home of the Mothman”

EXT.
MOTEL
ANGLE
DOWN to see the Impala pull into a motel parking lot.
the rain has stopped for now
PAN
DOWN to CLOSE UP on a neon sign the word “Vacancies”
lit up
INT.
IMPALA
Dean
parks the car and takes the keys from the ignition
DEAN
I'll go and book the room. You wait here
SAM
Why?
DEAN
Because you look like crap and I don't want you scaring
the locals
SAM
Jerk
Dean
smiles and shuts the door
INT.
MOTEL-RECEPTION
Dean
walks in and looks around the area. The walls and check
in desk are made from the same rich-looking oakwood,
on the walls are various pictures of the surrounding
area including one of the Silver bridge spanning the
Ohio river, before it's collapse.
WOMAN
(O.S.)
Can I help you?
Dean
turns around and sees a woman in her early thirties,
stood behind the counter. She is also, we notice, clearly
pregnant. This is JANE MARCELLAS
DEAN
Oh, sorry. I was just admiring these pictures
JANE
(nods)
Beautiful, wasn't it?
CLOSE
UP on the photograph of the Silver Bridge: It's an old
black and white still photo
JANE
(O.S.)
But that was before the accident of course
Dean
looks at Jane
DEAN
Yeah, I heard about that. Pretty horrific from what
I can remember
Jane
stares at the photo of the bridge
POV.
JANE
Looking
at the picture
(As
we CLOSE UP on the photo again, we can hear background
noises: a mixture of people screaming and metal structures
collapsing)
JANE
(O.S.)
To think of all those people who died on there...
She
looks at Dean, smiles
JANE
Sorry. As human beings, I believe we spend too much
time dwelling on the past
DEAN
(laughs)
Yeah, I guess so
JANE
(beat)
Anyway, I'm assuming you didn't come here to talk local
tragedies
DEAN
(off-hand)
Not entirely
JANE
How many nights are you planning on staying?
DEAN
A couple of weeks
JANE
(smiles)
Sure
Just
then she grips her stomach in pain
DEAN
You okay?
JANE
(nods)
Yeah, I'm fine
(beat)
Not even born yet and already he's giving me grief
DEAN
(laughs)
Yeah, kids are like that I guess. So when's he due?
JANE
About a month and a half from now
(rubs stomach)
but I think he's getting impatient
Dean
hands over his credit card
JANE
Thanks
(looks at the card)
Mr. Campbell
DEAN
(beat)
So, you heard about the Mothman sighting?
JANE
(running the card)
Yeah, but if you ask me the whole thing's pretty far
fetched
(hand Dean the receipt)
Sign here please
DEAN
So I take it you're not a believer?
JANE
I didn't say that
(takes the receipt)
Thanks
(beat)
Is that why you're here?
DEAN
(nods)
Yeah. Me and my brother we're fascinated by this kind
of stuff
JANE
Well, best of luck chasing shadows
(hands over the key)
Enjoy your stay
DEAN
(smiles)
Thank you
EXT.
PARKING LOT
Dean
walks back to the Impala, sees Sam leaning back against
the trunk staring up at the dark night sky.
DEAN
Sammy?
No
answer
Dean
moves next to Sam and looks up at the sky
DEAN
Dude, what is it?
SAM
(beat)
There are no stars
POV.
SAM
Looking
up at the dark, starless sky
DEAN
Okay, so it's an overcast night
SAM
(shakes his head)
You remember when you said, you believed mom was up
there watching out for you?
DEAN
(nods)
Yeah
SAM
(looks back to the sky)
Whenever I look up there I just feel...alone
Dean
doesn't know quite what to say
DEAN
Ah, come on, Sam
(beat)
You got me
(beat)
What more do you need?
Sam
smiles
SAM
Thanks, Dean
DEAN
What are big brothers for?
(taps him on the shoulder)
Come on, it's getting late and I have a real craving
for a good night's sleep
Dean
moves away while Sam continues to stare at the sky.
ANGLE DOWN on Sam as we quickly PAN UP from his face
to the dark sky above.

EXT.
WOODS-NIGHT
Music
cue - “Left Behind” by Slipknot
The
Music comes blasting out of a stereo as we PAN ACROSS
the dark woods to see a small pick up truck pull up
onto the side of the dirt road. Inside are three teenagers:
JOEL, DALE, KATIE. All are around 16-17 years old. Dale
is in the driving seat
DALE
(turns off the engine, the music stops)
Well, this is the place
Katie
leans forward
POV.
KATIE
Looking
through the front windscreen at the old abandoned TNT
plant out in the distance
KATIE
Oh, there is no way I am setting foot in that creepy
old place
JOEL
(looking at the TNT plant, excited)
Oh hell yeah! Now that's what I'm talking about
DALE
Just chill, Joel.
(to Katie)
You can stay here if you want, me and Joel will go ourselves
KATIE
(shakes head no)
No, I can do this
(beat)
You got them?
DALE
(nods)
Yep. You sure you can handle one?
Dale
takes a handgun from his jacket. Hands it to Katie
JOEL
I bet she shoots like a girl
KATIE
(picks up the gun, expertly loads a clip and cocks the
weapon)
Could be worse, dork, I could shoot like you
Joel
looks on in disbelief
JOEL
Whatever, let's just get this over with. I just want
my name to go down in history as the guy who killed
the freakin' Mothman
DALE
Don't worry, Joel, we do this and we'll all be rich
and famous
(beat)
Ready?
Katie
nods
KATIE
Yeah, I think
EXT.
OUTSIDE THE WOODS
The
three of them exit the truck and run off down the dirt
road into the vast woodland

Just up ahead!
POV.
DALE
We
can see the TNT plant building getting closer
INT.
TNT PLANT, MAIN ENTRANCE
The
three of them burst through the door and find themselves
in a large empty area filled with nothing of interest
or value. The room, indeed the plant itself, is completely
empty
KATIE
(nervous)
Okay, my “creep-o-meter” just went off the
scale
POV.
UNKNOWN
From
the rafters we can see the three teens far below, milling
around, we can still hear them talking
JOEL
I say we split up
KATIE
Are you crazy!?
DALE
she's right. We stick together
BACK
TO SCENE
JOEL
Oh man, you two are wusses. You're forgetting
(flashes handgun)
We're packin' heat. Mothman ain't gonna' stand a chance
POV.
JOEL
We
see a look of horror on Katie and Dale's faces as they
stare at him
JOEL
What?
(scared)
What is it?
PULL
BACK TO REVEAL a large shadow building behind Joel's
back
Joel
turns around and SCREAMS!
Dale
aims his gun, but the Mothman is too fast. Before he
can get off a single shot the Mothman has taken Joel
and lifted him kicking and screaming up into the darkness
of the rafters
DALE
(shouting)
Joel! Joel!
POV.
DALE
Looking
up into the darkness above him we can hear Joel's screams
then-
Silence
Katie
meanwhile has dropped her gun and slowly backs away,
afraid. Dale moves towards her
DALE
We have to run
KATIE
J-Joel?
DALE
Katie we need to run, now!
KATIE
(distraught)
We can't just leave him!
DALE
(clearly scared)
We'll get help! We'll get to town and we'll get the
cops
(grabs her arm)
Come on!

KATIE
DALE!
Dale

POV.
DALE
All
the trees are shaking violently. Something is coming
DALE
(turns to Katie)
Katie...
Katie
stands on the spot, crying. Just then something grabs
Dale's ankle and begins pulling him back towards the
Plant
KATIE
(Screams)
Dale!!
DALE
(shouts)
Katie, run!!
Katie
watches on, terrified as Dale is dragged off into the
darkness
KATIE
(sobbing)
...Dale
CIRCLE
AROUND Katie as she starts to hear the sounds of wings
flapping, coming from all directions
She
runs
She
gets so far and then-
Stops
