HOUSE. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT
Blackwood,
West Virginia
We
focus on a small typical family, the HAMILTONS. The
parents LINDSEY and CLEVELAND are trying to get their
two kids to bed. Their daughter BRONAGH (6) races excitedly
up the stairs, however the son CORMAC (7) seems reluctant.
CLEVELAND
(shouting after Bronagh)
I told you not to run up the stairs!
BRONAGH
(O.S.)
Sorry Daddy!
CLEVELAND
And don’t forget to brush your teeth
Lindsey
begins to sign to Cormac, it’s obvious the little
boy is deaf. He signs something back
LINDSEY
(while signing)
You have to go to bed
LINDSEY
What do you mean why?
(signing)
Because it’s late, that’s why
Cleveland
walks over
CLEVELAND
What’s the matter Cormy?
LINDSEY
He won’t go to bed
CLEVELAND
Again? But bed is fun
Cormac
gives Cleveland a “what do you take me for”
look
CLEVELAND
Sure it is, once you fall asleep and you dream you can
do whatever it is you want to do. Isn’t that great?
LINDESY
(sternly)
Cormac if you don’t go to bed you don’t
get any candy for a whole week
Defeated
Cormac races up the stairs. Cleveland turns to Lindsey
CLEVELAND
A little harsh don’t you think? I was making progress
LINDSEY
In your dreams
(beat)
And anyway he eats too much candy as it is. It drives
him nuts, that’s why he won’t go to bed
on time
CLEVELAND
He’s just a kid. That’s why he won’t
go to bed on time
LINDSEY
And you’re too soft on him. On both of them
CLEVELAND
Oh really?
(wraps his arms around Lindsey)
Would you rather I go hard on you?
Lindsey
mock pushes him away
LINDSEY
(smiling)
Oh my god. No wonder my mother hates you
CLEVELAND
She doesn’t have to watch. In fact I’d prefer
it if she didn’t.
Lindsey
walks up the stairs
LINDSEY
(playfully)
You’re disgusting
CLEVELAND
No I’m not. I’m lovable
LINDSEY
We’ll see
CUT
TO: INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT
We
PAN across the bedroom revealing two beds. We stop and
FOCUS on one. CLOSE UP to see Cormac half asleep. A
slight breeze rustles the sheets as he flips back over
on his side to face us. His eyes open slowly. He gets
up and looks across at Bronagh’s bed quizzically.
CLOSE
UP on Bronagh’s bed. It’s empty. Cormac
gets out of bed and glances around the room. He spies
the window has been opened so he walks across. Curious
he sticks his head outside and gasps.

IMPALA
Dean
and Sam sit silently in the car. The tension however
is bubbling over until finally:
DEAN
So when we are gonna talk about it?
SAM
About what Dean?
DEAN
About what happened back there in Philly
SAM
You actually wanna talk about it?
(beat)
You?
DEAN
What you thought I was the strong silent type? I tend
to break character when I watch my brother try to blow
his own head off
SAM
Dean......
DEAN
(CONT’D)
Even more-so when he tries to blow my head off. I mean
what were you thinking Sam?
SAM
I wasn’t thinking. The succubus was in control.
You know that
DEAN
I don’t mean that. I’m talking about the
way you took off on your own. We don’t communicate
through scraps of paper Sam
SAM
I just thought if I was out there on my own I’d
have a better chance of “attracting” it
I guess
DEAN
(looks across at Sam)
What are you? Captain Kamikaze all of a sudden?
SAM
(looking across at Dean)
You trusted me didn’t you? It’s not like
I didn’t tell you were I was, and I don’t
recall you busting the doors down straightaway
DEAN
That’s right, I came after you when I realized
you were about to screw it up
SAM
I wasn’t gonna screw it up
DEAN
Oh really? And what grand master plan were you gonna
unveil when that thing stepped outta your Devil’s
Trap?
Sam
looks away
SAM
I knew what I was doing
(beat)
And where are we going anyway? We’ve just been
heading south for like two hours
DEAN
Hey don’t try and change the subject here -
Dean
and Sam begin talking over each other
SAM
Change the subject? I’m not changing the subject
-
DEAN
You are, you’re always like this. Like I say something
and -
SAM
(CONT’D)
- asking stupid questions -
DEAN
(CONT’D)
- you don’t wanna answer so you’re all like
-
SAM
(CONT’D)
-not like anything-
DEAN
(CONT’D)
And when do you even care about directions anyway cos
-
Sam’s
eyes widen in shock
SAM
Dean look out!

We see a shape on the road up ahead. A collision is
immanent

adjoining field. She is immediately dazed by the headlights
and shields her face.

Jesus!
Dean
slams on the brakes.

ROAD
The

Dean
and Sam compose themselves for a second, breathing heavily.
SAM
(confused)
That’s a woman Dean
Dean
looks across at Sam, a bizarre expression on both brothers
faces
EXT.
ROAD
The
woman mills about in a dazed state, she mumbles incoherently
as Dean and Sam approach her cautiously. We see her
clothes dirty and ragged, just like her hair. It looks
like she’s just been dragged through a hedge back
ways.
SAM
Ma’am? Ma’am are you ok?
The
woman acts as if she doesn’t hear him. Sam glances
across at Dean who returns a shrug
DEAN
Hello?
Dean
touches her lightly on the shoulder. She spins around
in an instant as if woken from a deep sleep by an incredibly
loud alarm clock. It's Lindsey!
DEAN
Woah, sorry didn’t mean to startle you
LINDSEY
(agitated)
Where is she?
SAM
Who?
LINDSEY
Where is my daughter?
(desperate)
Where is my Bronagh?!
SAM
Ma’am you’ve got to calm down, you were
nearly in an accident. We nearly hit with our car. Do
you know where you are?
LINDSEY
Fields. Lost in the fields. They’re all gone.
DEAN
Who is lost in the fields?
LINDSEY
All of them. All the children!
SAM
(to Dean)
We need to take this woman home
DEAN
(to Sam)
Dude she’s a fruit
SAM
(to Dean)
I don’t think so. I think she’s a sane person
who’s undergone a recent trauma
DEAN
(to Sam)
Like I said
(beat)
A fruit
LINDSEY
(calling)
Bronagh! Bronagh! Come back to me Bronagh!
DEAN
Listen to her Sam. That’s crazy talk
SAM
Or maybe she really is looking for her daughter?
DEAN
In the middle of the night? I think it’s more
likely she is looking for a way back to her padded cell
SAM
I’m sure she’ll be able to tell us where
she lives. If not maybe she has her wallet on her or
something
DEAN
Dude we’re not a taxi service
SAM
It’s less then two miles to the next town Dean.
If anything we can bring her to the local police station
Dean
looks back at the woman who has begun to cry. His resolve
fades
DEAN
Fine. You win
EXT.

The

the back seat while Sam glances out the window
SAM
Looks like we walked into something here
EXT.
STREETS
We
pan across the streets as the Impala chugs by. People
are out with flashlights, some with weapons. It’s
clear the whole town is in a commotion about something
INT.
IMPALA
Dean
motions to the woman in the back seat
DEAN
You don’t thin they’re all looking for her
do you?
SAM
I dunno
DEAN
Only one way to find out
INT.
POLICE STATION
The
trio enter the police station. In keeping with the town
it’s small and unimpressive. However what it lacks
in space it makes up for in activity. The place is buzzing
with officers hurrying about and phones ringing off
the hook.
SAM
Bad time?
DEAN
There’s never a good time to be in one of these
places
Sam
tries to get some of the officers attention but they’re
far too busy. One young deputy recognizes the woman
and approaches from behind the reception desk
DEPUTY
Lindsey?
DEAN
Oh thank god. You know her?
DEPUTY
Of course I know her. She lives three doors down from
me. What happened to her?
SAM
We found her wandering along the road just now
DEAN
Nearly hit her with my car
DEPUTY
Lindsey?
DEAN
You’re wasting your time. She’s pretty far
out of it. She have a habit of doing this?
DEPUTY
No, not at all. Poor things in shock.
(beat)
Fellas thank you very much. You did the right thing
by bringing her in. I’ll take her home
Sam
is thinking
SAM
Actually you know we can do that, you look rushed off
your feet here
DEPUTY
It’s no problem
SAM
No really, it’s no trouble
Dean
gives Sam a “what the hell are you doing”
stare
SAM
(glancing around)
What’s goin’ on here anyway if you don’t
mind me asking?
DEPUTY
(nervous)
Come to think of it maybe you’re right. I really
shouldn’t do this but....
EXT.
POLICE STATION
Sam,
Dean and Lindsey exit the police station. Sam holds
a scrap of paper with an address on it
DEAN
Remind me to have a very private conversation with you
later on
SAM
Noted. You see the way the deputy changed the subject
when I asked him what was up? He couldn’t wait
to get rid of us
DEAN
Ok I get it Sam. You’re nose is twitching. Mine
too, there’s something going on in this town
SAM
And I think Lindsey here can help us
DEAN
How?
SAM
Look around Dean. Lindsey isn’t the only one looking
for lost kids
Dean
looks around the streets. People are searching frantically
DEAN
They’re all parents, which means.....
SAM
Where did all the children go?
